EXIT SURVIVAL MODE AND ENTER CREATIVE MODE.

I help young adults in Maryland find the reasons, motivators, and tools to keep going without ignoring the environmental and societal impacts that are out of their control.

My clients struggle as you do. Despite being hardworking, talented, and personable, it’s hard being a human.

When they first come in, they feel ashamed of what they feel they aren’t able to do. They experience overwhelming negative or fearful thoughts about themselves, the world, limitations, and life in general. They worry they may always feel stuck, hopeless, and unfulfilled. When they wake up in the morning, they still feel exhausted and want to sink back into the mattress, but they still have to get up to do the necessary things…. which causes more distress and avoidance of their needs.

This cycle gets in the way of the life they want to have and the person they want to be, and they question their identity and existence. They feel like they’re failing at life, within their relationships, and themselves.

Like my clients, you deserve to have a better relationship with yourself, your thoughts, your body, and the world around you. Identifying, expressing, and meeting your needs is not out of reach. Emily believes that artistic exploration and expression in art therapy can help people understand their emotional conflicts, reduce stress and anxiety, and provide the tools and skills necessary to aid in the restoration of healthy functioning. If you’re ready to do the work, I’d love to assist you in exploring and reading the message of your emotions so you can feel capable of meeting your needs and accomplishing your goals.

WHAT IS ART THERAPY?

Emily describes art therapy as an alternative form of psychotherapy that focuses on participation in different creative processes to foster holistic wellness. No experience with artmaking is needed to participate in art therapy. Emily likes to focus more on the process of artmaking than the product unless your personal goals are relevant to focusing on the product. We can determine that together!

Art therapy is similar to traditional talk therapy, but we typically do less talking and more artmaking. Non-verbal emotional exploration, expression, and communication can provide people with the opportunity to explore deeper and release more than traditional talk therapy. It’s also great for people who struggle with or don’t favor verbal communication. In an art therapy meeting, you’ll be provided with different processes of creative exploration structured to support self-exploration, self-expression, and self-discovery. This process can help people understand themselves, release blocks, increase quality of life, and assist people with reaching the best version of themselves.

The process of art therapy can provide you with the opportunity to explore, identify, and express your thoughts, feelings, emotions, experiences, and needs in a non-judgmental space, learn about mindfulness, explore your identity, explore your subconscious and unconscious mind, connect with your inner child, and so much more.

In art therapy, you will be provided with many different creative, expressive, and artistic activities tailored to your unique goals in therapy.

Art therapy could be right for you if you have difficulty expressing or verbalizing your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and experiences. Art therapy allows people to explore deeper and release more than traditional talk therapy through the experience of creative emotional exploration and self-expression. This process of exploration and self-discovery can help you better understand your thoughts, feelings, emotions, needs, and experiences.
